Donna Karan can always be counted on for fashionable creations–and choices.

Donna Karan

The woman lives a life of style.

After a stellar Fall-Winter 2011 New York runway show–which admixed some of the most sumptuously draped silk fabrications, furs, chiffon headscarves, mother-of-pearl luminescent hues and pencil-slim skirts in a paean to old Hollywood glamour, Karan switched coasts–and gears, and fed her philanthropic side–Urban Zen, by sponsoring a pre-party for Nomad: Two Worlds in Los Angeles, bringing a coterie of famous friends with her.

Everyone adores Donna–her friend Lisa Rinna–who looked great in casual California attire–was there, along with ageless Alana Stewart–Rod’s ex, dressed more formally, in lightweight “California-classic.”

We spoke with Estella Warren, about her new acting career–three movies in play this year and caught up with other celebrities including Jimmy Iovine, Liam Hemsworth, Chris Hemsworth, Kings of Leon’s Caleb Followill, Victoria’s Secret models Lily Aldridge and Erin Heatherton, Victoria’s Secret CEO and President Sharen Turney, Loree Rodkin, Golden Globe Award winner Irene Bedard, Amy Sacco, and co-creator of Nomad Two Worlds, Russell James. The exhibition is breathtaking–a look at the art of cultures thousands of years old.

The popular highlight of the evening, however–along with Donna, was the surprise appearance of Barbra Streisand–”no videos please,” who is blonder, leaner, younger-looking than ever.

A jubilant Donna Karan chatted for a half-hour with Elisabeth Laurence–and shared her passion for life and creating, saying she’s “not happy unless I’m doing 1,000 things at one time. I want to do everything.”

Donna is a friend and an inspiration to Lives of Style. Her zeal and her zest for life resonate far beyond fashion–and have become are a beacon of light for all who are touched by her.
