This Year’s Golden Girls

Sofia Vergara Golden Globes 2012

Last night in Hollywood, the stars from screens little and big gathered at the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards to celebrate the achievements of their peers in film and television. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s award show is always a delight, gathering the globe’s most talented creatives for a night which is equal parts business and pleasure. Last night they celebrated the best of Hollywood, but this morning we honor those in Lives of Style‘s favorite category – Best Dressed.

Dior spokeswoman, Charlize Theron, was luminous in a blush pink hi-low gown from the brand’s couture line. The Best Actress nominee completed the Old Hollywood look with a 1920’s Cartier Collection headband and relaxed up-do.

Actress and first-time director Angelina Jolie made a departure from basic black in Atelier Versace’s crimson-accented, cream satin gown to celebrate her nomination for Best Foreign Film with her debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey. With her classic chignon and matching red lip, Jolie was the epitome of glamour.

The Ringer star Sarah Michelle Gellar looked the part in a marble-dyed Monique Lhuillier gown that the actress’s two-year-old daughter Charlotte chose. A high pony tail and simple makeup ensured that the audience’s focus was on the gown when Gellar presented the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Hot mama Salma Hayek, stunned in Gucci – her husband is the CEO of Gucci Group. The dress’s Art Deco beaded bodice and pleated metallic skirt were figure-flattering and perfectly on-trend.

Looking plucked straight from the ocean in her dreamy custom-made Vera Wang mermaid gown, small screen siren Sofia Vergara was a force to be reckoned with. The Modern Family funny-woman finished the sea-worthy look with some seriously beautiful Harry Winston jewels.

Nicole Richie looked incandescent in London designer Julien Macdonald’s metallic knit dress. A sleek upswept hairdo and jewelry from the designer’s own line, House of Harlow, made this look the perfect balance of 1960’s mod and bohemian.

Though none of our best-dressed ladies went home with a golden statuette last night, their looks won them major points over here at Lives of Style. Looking forward to awards season 2012, we’re hoping for more glitz, glam and a healthy dose of that golden Hollywood shine!
