Spring 2012 Accessories Have a New Look

In addition to the florals and pastels that typify Spring, designers showcased tribal touches, futuristic elements, statement earrings, and totally out-there sunglasses.

Spring 2012 runway shows were rife with tribal bags, shoes, belts and jewelry. To make this trend your own look for accessories with natural textures like wood, clay, and bone, earthy tones like reds and browns, and tribal patterns featuring zig-zags, circles, and straight lines.

Another big trend is futurism. Rodarte models strutted down the runway in metallic, laser-cut platforms. Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton created alien-like, extreme platform wedges that follow in the groundbreaking footsteps of his ‘Armadillo’ shoes. These silver shoes feature a curved heel and straps that climb their way up your leg. Chanel was another brand that followed the futuristic trend with a geometric clutch in a high-polish, chrome finish. Follow this trend by picking accessories in metallic colors with cut-out details and geometric angles.

2012 also marks the end of the statement necklace. Now it’s all about the statement earring! Models in various fashion shows wore huge, dangling earrings that were as captivating as the clothes themselves. Whether you prefer shoulder-grazing earrings like those in the Marni and Oscar de la Renta shows or sparkling clusters like those from Prada and Jil Sander, make sure the baubles you choose are loud, bold, and attention grabbing.

Sunglasses also got a truly kooky revamp on the runways. Designers favored coke-bottle shaped lenses and many put a unique spin on the cat-eye shape. For example, Rochas featured a minimalist cat-eye sunglass with a mint rim. Rag & Bone did a coke-bottle shape sunglass with clear blue frames that have an elastic band to wrap around your head. For Spring 2012 toss out the bug-eye sunglasses of old and pick up goggle-like and cat-eye sunglasses with multicolor frames in odd shapes.

Follow the trends above to make sure you’re the most stylish girl in town for Spring 2012!
