The Modeling Gene?

Following the birth of a child, we often hear the phrase, “Today, so-and-so gave birth to a beautiful child named (insert name here).”

How about this one? On September 3rd, 2001 former models Rande Gerber and Cindy Crawford gave birth to a supermodel named Kaia Jordan Gerber. Fast forward to 2012 and 10-year-old Kaia, officially named the face of Young Versace’s advertising campaign is receiving rave reviews from her modeling debut.

Now, according to the fashion house’s creative director Donatella Versace, Kaia has inherited all of her mother’s modeling magic, saying “Gerber proved she has inherited her famous mother’s talent when modeling the collection, which is aimed at youngsters aged 0-12”. Versace also said, “Like her mother, Kaia has a very special gift…the camera really, really loves her.”

Talk about walking in your mother’s footsteps! We all can recall Crawford being a key figure in the nineties for the late Gianni Versace. Most would even say that Versace saw Crawford as his muse.

While on-hand at the photo shoot, Crawford reminisced on her experience with the House of Versace saying, “I have so many fond memories of the times I spent with Gianni and Donatella. There is something so very special about the House of Versace”. She described the shoot as a “fantastic experience…I am so proud of her (Kaia).”

Famous fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott shot the new campaign. It follows the opening of the first Young Versace boutique in Milan, Italy.

Now, trying to be the next Cindy Crawford is a tall task for anybody, but who better to attempt this task than her own offspring?
