Vogue’s Best Dressed List 2012: The Stylists Behind The Stars:

Vogue's Best Dressed

Vogue just released its “Best Dressed of 2012” list, and for those of you who haven’t heard–the top ten newly-appointed style icons are Emma Stone, Rooney Mara, Leelee Sobieski, Zoë Saldana, Lauren Santo Domingo, Solange Knowles, Kristen Stewart, Lily Kwong, Kimberly Chandler and Dree Hemingway. Although there were a few surprises, no one can deny each of these women’s individual, trendsetting style or their right to be on this list. But some of them didn’t get here on their own. Behind several of these fashionable starlets is a fashion-savvy stylist…can you guess which ones? Let’s take another look at that best dressed list to see who had a little help getting there…

Emma Stone styled by Petra Flannery

As she has said herself, Emma Stone’s everyday style usually consists of little more than jeans and a sweater. But boy, does she know how to “bring it” on the red carpet! At premieres and award shows across the planet she has dazzled in everything from Versace to Chanel to Alexander McQueen. The genius behind such striking ensembles? None other than celebrity super-stylist Petra Flannery, who The Hollywood Reporter named as one of the most powerful stylists in the industry earlier this year. Flannery has put many stars on the map with their killer ensembles, including Mila Kunis, Megan Fox, Claire Danes and maybe even someone else on this list…

Rooney Mara styled by Ryan Hastings

Rooney Mara always makes quite a statement on the red carpet. Her fashion choices are bold; she is often snapped in dramatic floor-length gowns or statement pieces with daring cutouts, which contain more than a hint of Lisbeth Salander, the Goth heroine she portrayed in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Hastings, who has also dressed Mia Wasikowska and Robert Pattinson, has done a fantastic job in creating a signature look for Mara. A fashion editor turned celebrity stylist, Hastings prefers to keep a low profile and operates without an agent or publicist, below the radar. But like his sharply-dressed clients, we believe his fashion credentials speak for themselves.

Kristen Stewart styled by Tara Swennen

K-Stew has had more than her fair share of media coverage recently, due to the release of the final instalment of the Twilight Saga; Breaking Dawn: Part Two. As she toured the globe to promote the movie she cleverly followed the expert advice of her stylist Tara Swennen and looked nothing short of spectacular at every event. At premiere after premiere, she wowed fans and fashionistas alike with her show-stopping ensembles. In L.A. she wore a sheer nude-colored Zuhair Murad gown that was both edgy and glamorous. In London she opted for another look by the same designer, a sexy black jumpsuit with sequin and sheer detail. The L.A based style-guru has transformed Kristen from a shy teen with a fear of high heels to one of the best-dressed women in the industry. Tara Swennen, we salute you.

Zoë Saldana styled by Petra Flannery

Is it just us, or is there a pattern emerging here? Yes, it’s super-stylist Petra Flannery again! This time she’s working her magic on Avatar actress Zoë Saldana.  Saldana has said that finding Petra Flannery was like finding “The One”, the two of them instantly hit it off. Flannery’s fashion-savvy combined with Saldana’s stunning looks and confident attitude allow the actress to stand out from the crowd wherever she goes. She favors daring pieces by Prabal Gurung, Lanvin and Barbara Bui – to name but a few. “I love everything about dressing Zoë,” Flannery has said. “Zoë can wear things that a lot of people can’t wear, and she pulls it off and looks beautiful all the time. We like taking those risks.”

Solange Knowles styled by Ty Hunter

Lots of girls borrow their big sister’s clothes. Solange Knowles has gone one step further and borrowed Beyonce’s stylist! Ty Hunter has been the brains behind Beyonce’s wardrobe choices for over 16 years and has handpicked some of her most fabulous outfits, including the thigh-revealing, lime green Stephane Rolland dress she wore to the 2012 BET Awards. Now Solange is enlisting Hunter’s help to create a fierce new look to promote her new album True, released November 27. However, as Solange is eager to assert, working with Ty has definitely been a collaborative effort, “He knows how I roll. I’m definitely not the girl you just hand an outfit to.”

So there you have it – concrete proof that even celebrities need a little help to look fabulous!
