85th Academy Awards Nominations

Daniel Day-Lewis and Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln")

The 85th Annual Academy Award nominations have been announced!

Lincoln swept away the competition with an overwhelming 12 category nominations, including “Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role” (Daniel Day-Lewis), “Achievement in Directing” (Steven Spielberg), and “Achievement in Original Score” (John Williams).

Let’s face it – only Daniel Day-Lewis could pull of the strong jawline and uniquely courageous representation of this iconic president trying to reunite a nation.

Life of Pi claimed 11 category nominations, including “Adapted Screenplay,” “Achievement in Cinematography,” and “Achievement in Sound Editing.”

For a film based on a fantastical book that takes place in the middle of the ocean, the cast and crew did a fabulous job of taking us along for the ride.

Silver Linings Playbook garnered eight nominations, four of which were for the movie’s lead and supporting actors and actresses – Bradley Cooper, Robert De Niro, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jacki Weaver.

Admix Hollywood’s best talent in one movie, and what do you get? A chance to sweep up the coveted Big Five Academy Awards (Film, Director, Lead Actor, Lead Actress, and Screenwriter)!

Les Miserables—which premiered on December 25, 2012, was a late but popular addition to this year’s nominees. It reaped eight category nominations, including “Achievement in Makeup” and “Hairstyling,” “Costume Design,” and “Production Design.” Those close-ups during the musical numbers really exhibited what this crew could do with this intricate, 19th Century period piece!

All four of these popular front-runners compete in the “final frontier” for Best Motion Picture of the Year. Who will come out on top? Tune in on February 24 on ABC!
