BRAVO!!! VERA WANG RECEIVES CFDA LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD AT STAR-STUDDED EVENT

Ralph Lauren awarding Vera Wang

When the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) holds their annual awards ceremony, fashion, celebrity and international icons take center stage at fashion’s “Academy Awards.”

This year, the CFDA Awards–held on 3 June at Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, honoured our friend Vera Wang in a touching moment where her mentor–and iconic fashion designer–Ralph Lauren, presented Vera with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Vera–who, earlier in her career, worked for Ralph Lauren as Senior Accessories Designer, hugged Lauren and was visibly moved.

In other awards, Riccardo Tisci, creative director for Givenchy, won the International Award, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton–who praised Oscar de la Renta’s philanthropy, presented de la Renta with the Eleanor Lambert Foundations Award.

Womenswear Designer of the Year for the third time went to Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez for Proenza Schouler. Thom Browne was awarded Menswear Designer of the Year, and Accessories Designer of the Year went to Phillip Lim for 3.1 Phillip Lim.

Actors Hailee Steinfeld and Douglas Booth, stars of Swarovski Entertainment’s debut film Romeo & Juliet, presented the Swarovski Awards, presented to up-and-coming designers. Those awards went to Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year–Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty for Suno, Swarovski Menswear Designer of the Year–Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne for Public School and Swarovski Accessories Designer of the Year– Pamela Love.

Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Executive Board, Swarovski congratulated the winners. “We congratulate this year’s Swarovski Award winners. We are always thrilled to provide designers with the needed support to conceptualize their vision into reality. Their creativity is truly inspiring.”

The awarded designers were quick to thank Diane von Furstenberg and Steven Kolb of the CFDA, as well as Anna Wintour, though Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne were so stunned they could hardly speak.
