Prabal Gurung Brings Pieces Of Nepal To NYFW

Vibrant colors and flowing fabrics underscored Prabal Gurung’s fall-winter 2014 collection at New York Fashion Week. The designer drew a great deal of inspiration from his homeland of Nepal, even lining the runway with a series of large, golden gongs. Gurung relied on complex drapery akin to a monk’s robes to bring depth and elegance to his collection. He contrasted heavy knits with silk skirts to create balance and sophistication. A-symmetrical lengths and soft color blocking were the highlight of several pieces. The standout pieces fell at the apex of the show, when a series of monochrome chiffon gowns took the runway by storm. They featured thigh-high slits and heavily intricate detail at the top, and brought the show to a stunning close.
