Rihanna to Get Award at CFDA Gala– “Oscars” of Fashion

Pop star Rihanna “RiRi” will receive the Fashion Icon Award from The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) at their Annual Gala on 2 June in New York.

CDFA President Diane von Fürstenberg and CEO Steven Kolb lauded Rihanna for her exciting contributions to the fashion industry, as well as for her philanthropic partnership with the M·A·C AIDS Fund’s Viva Glam campaign.

This invitation-only affair recognizes the brilliant contributions that industry individuals have made to American fashion, and awards are given in design, journalism, creative vision, and lifetime achievement.

Nominees for other categories include: Alexander Wang for Women’s Wear Designer of The Year as well as Accessories Designer of The Year; Marc Jacobs for Women’s Wear Designer of The Year; Ashley & Mary-Kate Olsen, The Row for Accessories Designer of The Year; and Thom Browne for Menswear Designer of The Year. This year’s honorary Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Tom Ford.

The 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards are presented in collaboration with Swarovski, and will be hosted by film director and screenwriter John Waters at Alice Tully Hall, Lincoln Center.
