New York Fashion Week—Why We Love Cynthia Rowley

CYNTHIA ROWLEY Fall/Winter 2014 Presentation

Such a cool girl! She not only is a design maven but she’s into extreme sports like surfing and even takes sports vacations.

She’s always on the go—kinetic and creative—and yet, in person, when we at Lives of Style have interviewed her at Fashion Week and in her New York boutique—she is a fun, warm and sophisticated.

She proves that you can be beautiful, successful and live a super, sporting life.

Cynthia Rowley was born in Barrington, Illinois and had a passion for design from a young age.

In 1981, Rowley attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she began to pursue a career in fashion. Her first full collection was purchased while she was still in college and that sale gave her the leverage—and the courage—she needed to move to New York and establish her brand.

Rowley’s namesake collection has since grown to include womenswear, menswear, eyewear, handbags, shoes, legwear, shapewear, wetsuits, as well as collaborations with Johnson & Johnson and Procter and Gamble, to name just a few.

With activewear burgeoning as an industry, Rowley stands at the forefront of the movement, having established a beachhead for herself early on–with surf-wear.

She was the first to innovatively work surf and active-wear fabrications into collections, and develop bonded fabric that feels lighter and more luxurious than neoprene. “It’s functional fitness gear,” she said.

With innovation, style, creativity and brio—we can’t wait to see Cynthia Rowley’s collection for Spring-Summer 2015
